Tales From the Cancer Ward

Baldy (Boule à zéro)

What's the word for a weeaboo, but with French stuff?

As you probably are already aware, as of recently, you could say I've gotten pretty deep in the French-language comic rabbit hole. I must have purchased at least half a dozen books at this point.

This had given Google the impression that I've becpme the Francophone equivalent of a weeaboo, so my recommended books list on Google Play was filled with (as well as the occasional manga, and, for some reason, novels by Zilpha Keatley Snyder. Don't ask why)

One of the many comics that were in the related section was this comic over here. And it was even written by Zidrou, the writer who set me on this comic journey to begin with.

This comic is also illustrated by one Serge Ernst. who seems to have been at it since the 1980s.

I initially didn't take too much interest in this comic about some bald kid in a hospital, but a couple days later, I came across the exact same cover while browsing further.

It was an English version. With an actual English title.

At that point, something led me to purchase the thing. Maybe it was the fact that there was an English translation of a Zidrou comic available on Google Play, or maybe I simply had a change of heart regarding the comic.

I don't think that I need to mention that since then, all the volumes of this comic have been region-blocked by Google--except for the German-language version, that is.

Unlike the other European comics that I've done writeups for on this site, it looks like I'll be going in completely blind. No website screenshots or e-book snippets this time around.

UPDATE 10/23/2024: Looks like even the German translations have been region blocked. Thanks Google.
