Curate of Curiosities

The Final Choice

So what did we learn? Relationships are fickle, don't worry too much.

Previously on Longstory, Sasse put his foot in it and now Turkeyhawk broke up with him.

It's the last episode, but not a whole lot goes on in it. Since all of its major plotlines have already been resolved, the only thing it can do is have a half-hour long wrap party.

Oh yes, Nora's actually in our house, because that's where her character arc would naturally lead: to her going beyond a mere cell phone correspondense to meet her friend in person. But did she really have a character arc to begin with, or just a bunch of scenes that happended when Sasse needed to talk with her?

To this game's credit though, I do believe that their relationship is the best developed out of all the ones showcased, to to point where, after Sasse and Turkeyhawk's breakup, I thought that she'd be the rebound pick.

Speaking of, it's time for our first school day since the breakup. It would be a real shame if he ran into a certain someone in front of the school.

Bet you thought they'd actually show up, right? Wel, wrong. But that doesn't mean that Sasse doesn't have a place to go; it's the same place that he goes to at the start of every school day.

That's right at the locker where all this started. You know, it's crazy to think that if the manager at this school actually did their job, then none of this plot would have happened. And the best part is, Sasse has kept that note in his locker the entire time. Sentimental value, perhaps?

But when he opens it this time around, he finds...another note from Em? No, no, we are not going through all of this again!

You rigged this, didn't you?

By the way, remember when Abby accused Em of shoplifting in service of their really age-inappropriate fashion sense? What happened to that? Was there any truth to that at all?

I'm not going to lie, Marcel, I'm not really going to miss you. You didn't have a whole lot to do with the mystery that took up a full two-thirds of this game, and unlike Nora, you didn't get a whole lot of screentime besides, so...

Now, while part of the focus of the last episode, that had quite a bit of buildup only to be of middling importance, was the healthy relationships workshop, this episode focuses on each of the kids deciding what high school they'll go to. For that, the school will be holding a guidance day, where they'll get to pick what school they'll be attending next year. At least it won't involve us making corny, insincere compliments.

You know, there were precisely two moments in this entire game where I registered that Sasse even had a little brother: the first was when he made that horrendously inappropriate joke about sperm back at the end of episode 1, and the other was when he made that creepypasta-looking face last episode.

Yes, why on earth are you even coming to guidance day? As far as I know, you've never even attended this school! No wait, I already know the answer! It's so we can have every single character in one place for the finale!

Quick question, why on earth would a high school have tentacles sticking out of it in its promotional poster? It makes it feel like if we go there, we'll end up in the plot of one of those kind of visual novels.

What detective talents? While Sasse was trying to get to the bottom of this Em business, he wound up barking up the wrong tree and blaming the three of you of bullying them. If they hadn't shown up themselves, I have no idea what else he would have done.

And here it is, the final choice. I guess whatever you pick is supposed to show who the player has grown closest to over the course of the game, but to be honest, I'm okay with all of us going our separate ways.

Oh, and as for Turkeyhawk, considering everything that has happened, between them blowing up at Sasse for no reason after the school dance, and them blowing up at him again after he asked a perfectly innocent question, I feel like it would be best to just cut our losses. But then again, these are kids that are just about to enter high school. I know from experience that they can be really dramatic about things like this.

So do you want to know what I picked? Given that it's the very end of the game, I thought it didn't really matter which one you picked, so I just went with the first option to get these two off my back.

Your ukelele? No, no, no, no! We are not going through this again!

Why am I not surprised that this game would take a cue from Dreamworks and end this game with a musical number? And who else but Em is the one to lead it?

And that was Longstory. Yeah, that was...definitely a visual novel. And as far as Canadian media goes, I didn't find quite as interesting as, say, The Demon Rush, even though this is clearly the better made product, awful controls aside.
